The Hilda Jayewardenaramaya Buddhist Monastery and meditation centre is established to preserve the Theravada Buddhist teaching in the Western world. The provision of facilities for ordained monks to practice the noble teaching, disseminate the Buddhist teaching among lay people (i.e. morality (Sila), concentration (Samadhi), wisdom (Panna)), and teaching noble qualities such as tolerance, hospitality, compassion, and loving kindness are our objectives.

Venerable Nugegalayaye Jinananda Thero

Venerable Nugegalayaye Jinananda TheroVenerable Nugegalayaye Jinananda Thero is a resident monk at the Hilda Jayewardenaramaya Buddhist Monastery since July 2008. He teaches meditation and holds Dhamma discussions.
Venerable Mahagama Suneetha Thero

Venerable Mahagama Suneetha Thero is a Sri Lankan Theravada Buddhist monk who joined recently with Hilda Jayewardenaramaya Buddhist Monastery to serve the community with his Dhamma experience.

Venerable Mahagama Suneetha Thero received his novice ordination in 1990 at the age of 11 at Nigrodharamaya Buddhist temple, Galle, Sri Lanka. After successful completion of the primary monastery education at Midigama Sirisumana Pirivena, he entered into Kelaniya University, Colombo for bachelor’s degree. He studied languages such as Sanskrit, French, and German, additional to Buddhist philosophy in practice. He is graduated in 2004 with first class credit. He also completed the post graduate diploma in psychological counselling at the education faculty, university of Colombo in 2010.

Venerable Suneetha thero has been visiting some countries in Europe and Asia to share his Dhamma knowledge with different communities. He is a well-trained meditation teacher and will instruct people during his stay at the Hilda Jayewardenaramaya Buddhist Monastery, Ottawa.

Venerable Brahmanagama Muditha Thero

Venerable Brahmanagama Muditha Thero is the abbot of the Hilda Jayewardenaramaya Buddhist Monastery (HJMB), Ottawa since 2008. He is also the abbot of the Great Lakes Buddhist Vihara (GLBV), Michigan, USA since 1997 while a few monasteries in USA and Canada are run under his guidance. Venerable thero is a distinguished scholar and a preacher in Theravada tradition. He is well-known as a skillful meditation instructor to many monks and lay people and has been serving in North America for more than two decades.
Venerable Kulugammana Dhammawasa Thero

Venerable Kulugammana Dhammawasa thero, the chief prelates of North America is currently residing at the West End Buddhist Temple and Meditation Centre, Mississauga, Canada as the chief incumbent. He has been a chief incumbent of the Hilda Jayewardenaramaya Buddhist Monastery and meditation centre, Ottawa since 2008 rendering his service for more than two decades.

Venerable Kirinde Vijitha Thero

Venerable Kirinde Vijitha Thero was born in April 25, 1986 at Kirinda, Matara, Sri lanka. He received his ordination at the age of 11 in 1997. After having completed his typical monastic education diligently, he got his higher ordination in 2006. He has a master’s degree in Counselling and Spirituality from Saint-Paul University in Ottawa, Canada and Buddhist studies from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. At the invitation of The Hilda Jayewardenaramaya Buddhist Monastery in Ottawa (Buddhist Congress of Canada), Bhante Vijitha renders his invaluable service to the BCC and its people from November 26, 2010 to date. He is also providing his support as a multi-faith spiritual care practitioner at the Ottawa Hospital.
