"Hello. I am still confused re ""no soul"" ANATTA and karma. in 'What TheBuddha Taught' W. Rahula quotes the Buddha as saying: ""See conditionality everywhere in all things.' Pls explain what this means as it pertains to WHO gets the results of Karma? (If there is no 'me'.) Thank you"
The answer must be a detailed description because it addresses few Dhamma aspects of the Buddha's teaching. Philosophically speaking we cannot say someone else is getting result. for example a person does bad things in this life dies and reborn in unhappy place due to bad deeds he accumulated. We clearly see that he left the dead body. with this example we can not say he is reborn but someone else. Yet if he is alive he should do activities as he was but there is only a body that is decaying. Then it shows he is reborn. Therefore Buddhism emphasizes that neither the same person nor other person is reborn. Physical body is just like the dead skin of a snake. A snake once a while remove his skin when it gets old similarly our physical body is only a rented vehicle to go to a trip after the expected time we have to return it. People use to think this body as the 'Atta' or self which means a permanent thing. It goes from this life to another. to reject this this misunderstanding the Buddha explains that everything is conditioned and whatever conditioned they are impermanent. whatever impermanent is suffering. Do not be angry to protect me
Monks, if others speak in disparagement of me, of the Dhamma or of the Sangha, you should not be angry, resentful or upset on that account. If you were to be angry or displeased at such disparagement, that would only be a hindrance to you.
If others disparage me, the Dhamma or the Sangha, then you must explain what is incorrect as being incorrect", saying: ‘That is incorrect, that is false, that is not our way, that is not found among us.’
Monks, if others speak in praise of me, of the Dhamma or of the Sangha, you should not on that account be pleased, happy or elated. If you were to be pleased, happy or elated at such praise, that would only be a hindrance to you." If others praise me, the Dhamma or the Sangha, you should acknowledge the truth of what is true, saying: ‘That is correct, that is right, that is our way, that is found among us’.
